BELCHERTOWN HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION’S 3RD ANNUAL

CANNONBALL RUN 5K ROAD RACE & WALK OFFERS NEW COURSE!

Belchertown, MA June 26, 2008 –  A new 5K race course that circles the center of historic Belchertown, Massachusetts will offer runners and walkers a fun challenge as the 3rd Annual Cannonball Run 5K Road Race & Walk takes place, Sunday, July 13th, 2008 at 9am sharp.  Registration starts at 8am. The race, a crowd pleaser for all categories of runners, has gradually grown into one of the larger fundraisers for the Belchertown Historical Association (BHA) during the annual Living History Days weekend event.  The new course will loop the Town Center by way of Jabish Street, Rt. 9 and North Main Street to the half mile long Town Common.  Cold water and juicy watermelon await the finishing participants.

Interested runners and walkers can download registration forms from www.coolrunning.com or www.StoneHouseMuseum.org. For more information, please call Lisa at (413) 323.6612 or Elizabeth at (413) 687.3144.

“This year’s race course is a bit different as we wanted to give our runners and walkers a new route,” says Co-producer Lisa Watts, a Trustee of the BHA Board.  “We have several routes to choose from and this one will be fun as the big down hill at the start of the race will not be so tough on the back end because North Main Street is a gradual incline!”

As the theme suggests, the Cannonball Run gives respect to the historic cannon on Town Common and age groups or ‘brigade’ groups are as follows: Sympathizers (11 and under), Rusted Muskets (60 and up), Antiques (50 – 59), Artillery (40 – 49), Calvary (30 – 39), Infantry (19 – 29), Sharpshooters (16 – 18), Marines (12 – 15).  All top male and female runners in the categories receive prizes as well as the top male and female runners over all who receive $100 cash from Overall Sponsor, Country Bank.  Pre-Registration by July 3rd is only $12 and race-day is $15.  The first 100 registrants receive a free tee shirt, sponsored by Bell & Hudson Insurance!  All runners and walkers are allowed into the event with their race bib / walker ticket.  All proceeds go to the Stone House Museum.

For those interested in participating, please make checks payable to: Belchertown Historical Association and mail $12 to:  Cannonball Run 5K  % Stone House Museum PO Box 1211   Belchertown, MA 01007
