Fly Fishing Expert To Speak at Stone House
BELCHERTOWN – Nationally-recognized authority on fly fishing, Tom Fuller, will be the next speaker in the Belchertown Historical Association’s Spring Seminar Series, on Wednesday, May 7, 7 p.m. at the Stone House Museum, 20 Maple Street (Route 202).
A lifelong angler and a writer, Fuller has published more than 2,500 articles in fishing and outdoor magazines, He is the former New England editor of Field & Stream and the former Northeast regional columnist for Outdoor Life magazines. He has authored four books include Getting Started in Fly Fishing, The Complete Guide to Eastern Hatches: What Flies to Fish, When, and Where and Trout Streams of Southern New England: An Angler's Guide to the Watersheds of Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island; and. Underwater Flies for Trout.
Fuller will discuss the history of fly fishing in the Pioneer Valley including several companies renowned for making split cane rods such as the Amherst Fishing Rod Co. and the Montague Rod Co. – a craft which dwindled with the introduction of fiber glass rods but is continued by a few talented individuals making split cane rods today. To supplement his talk, Fuller will bring several reference books to the Stone House for those who are interested in learning more.
The program will be $3 for Members of the Belchertown Historical Association, $5 for nonmembers. Proceeds benefit the Association which preserves and promotes the history of Belchertown through the Stone House Museum and educational programs in the schools and community.
