    2nd Annual Art Show  7/12/08

Judges had their work cut out for them Saturday morning choosing the winners of the Belchertown Historical Association's second annual juried art show, part of Living History Days.  Pondering the entries  were judges (from left) art lecturer Gloria Russell; Pam Bronner, manager of the Belchertown branch of Easthampton Savings Bank; and Nancy Bryant owner of Giclée of New England.  
                                         

Art Show Winners Announced

 

Belchertown, MA The Belchertown Historical Association has announced the winners of its juried Lifestyles Then & Now Fine Art Exhibit. They are:

            First place: Judy Bettencourt, of Belchertown, for her painting Reflections on the Ride.

            Second place: Robert R. Wordsworth of Belchertown, for his painting, Green Thumb.

            Third place: Jean Stabell of New Salem, for her photograph, Weathervane.

            Honorable mentions were awarded to Bettencourt, Wordsworth, Annie Steiner also of Belchertown; Geraldine Barboza of Chicopee, and Michael Vinyard of Southbridge.

            Judges for the exhibition were art lecturer Gloria Russell; Nancy Bryant, owner of Giclée of New England, and Pam Bronner, manager of the Belchertown branch of Easthampton Savings Bank, which was a  sponsor of Living History Days. Volunteers transformed the gym of the Old Town Hall  into an art gallery for the weekend to display more than four dozen works by area artists. The ambience was further enhanced with plants on loan from the Belchertown Garden Center.

            The Art Show was just one component of the Historical Association’s Living History Days 2008, which also included a garden tour, a historic home tour, displays of antique cars, and the 5K Cannonball Run Road Race.

            Proceeds from Living History Days benefit the Belchertown Historical Association, which preserves and promotes the history of Belchertown through the Stone House Museum and educational programs in the schools and community.

The Belchertown Historical Association is pleased to announce our 2nd annual juried art show in conjunction with Living History Days, Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, 2008, at the Old Town Hall on the Belchertown Common.

 We are looking for the widest, most creative interpretations of this year’s theme Lifestyles Then and Now. Our lifestyles include – but imply far more than – manner of dress, level of technology, architecture, means of transportation, food choices and other artifacts of our physical relationship to the world and to each other. Our changing lifestyles also refers to the way we see our relationships with each other, with our families and with workplaces, as well as with nature and the animals with whom we share this small jewel of a planet.  Let your art be your guide! 

To apply:

·        The application deadline is June 10.

·        Please fill in the application   and send it with your non-refundable application fee, check payable to the Belchertown Historical Association; for $25 to enter two pieces, $35 for three. If you did not participate in last year’s show, send three samples of your work for review by the Living History Days Committee. Be sure to enclose a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage to return your samples. Alternatively, if you have a website, we can review your work on your website.

·         Those artists who were in last year’s art show need not send samples for review.

·        Mail completed application form, fee and samples, if required to: Living History Days Art Show, Stone House Museum, PO Box 1211, Belchertown, MA 01007-1211.

·        Notification will be sent out by email prior to June 15.  

 Drop Off:

Art work must be dropped off Friday, July 11 at the Old Town Hall between 3 and 6 p.m. All work must be framed and wired for hanging. Sculpture should be submitted with pedestals or other appropriate display medium.

 Prizes

Jurying will take place Saturday morning prior to public opening. Jurors will be representatives of the art and business communities.

1st Place Award: $100

2nd  Place: $75
3rd Place: $50
3 Honorable Mentions: Certificate

 Other activities during the weekend will include 

·        Antique ~ Classic Car and Motorcycle Show

·        3rd Annual Cannonball Run 5K Road Race

·        Belchertown Area Garden Tour

·        Belchertown Historic House Tour

All participating artists will receive two free tickets for the activities. 

Pick Up:

All art must be picked up at the conclusion of the show, Sunday, July 13, between 3 and 5 p.m. No art work may be removed from the show prior to 3 p.m.

Sales:

Artists may offer entered work for sale. Price information should be included on application. Contact information will be provided to visitors at the show and sales will be handled directly with the artist. The Belchertown Historical Association will not take a percentage of sales.

Art Show Winners Announced

 

 

Belchertown, MA The Belchertown Historical Association has announced the winners of its juried Windows of Historic New England Fine Art Exhibit. They are:

            First place: April Fools Covered, graphite, by Steve Wilda of Hadley.

            Second place: Blue Sky II, photograph, by Jean Stabell of New Salem.

            Third place: Baby’s Breath, oil painting by Anne Steiner of Belchertown.

            The Spectator’s Choice Award went to Welcome Home, oil painting by Robert R. Wordsworth of Belchertown.

            Honorable mentions were awarded to Judy Bettencourt and Jim Gambaro, both of Belchertown, and Laurie Genereux of Greenfield.

            The Windows of New England Art Show was just one component of the Historical Association’s Living History Days 2007, which also included a garden tour of 11 diverse gardens throughout Belchertown, displays of antique cars, motorcycles, carriages and sleighs; and the 5K Cannonball Run Road Race and a demonstration of 19th-century herbal cooking.

            Sponsor of the Fine Art Exhibit was Ace Hardware and Lumber of Belchertown which donated supplies for constructing the display units for the Art Show.
